From patient to nurse. From survivor to mother. Rachel journey with lymphedema is proof that even in life’s hardest moments, there is strength, purpose, and beauty 💙 My name is Rachel & I’ve had lymphedema in my left leg since 2009. A year and a half after my swelling started I was diagnosed with May-Thurner syndrome and secondary lymphedema. It completely changed my life. All while navigating college and trying to identify my sense of self I struggled with my body image. Dealing with depression was not easy and to this day it is still a challenge but therapy has brought me much closer to acceptance. In college, my dreams of becoming a nurse were put on pause as I dealt with surgeries (stent placement for MTS) and many doctor appts. But a few years later I became a nurse and today live out my dreams of helping others with a greater perspective of how it feels to be the patient. I’m also a wife and mother to two beautiful daughters. Last year, during the second trimester with my youngest I developed a blood clot that became a pulmonary embolism. I was already on blood thinners, as a precaution for my conditions, but for reasons we’ll never know it still happened and I’m so grateful to be here today sharing my story. Life with lymphedema isn’t easy but it is still incredibly beautiful and a gift every single day. . . . #Lymphedema #NationalLymphedemaNetwork #PatientHighlights #NLN #LymphedemaAwarenessMonth #WorldLymphedemaDay #WLD #MayThurnerSyndrome #MTS

Every lymphedema journey is unique, and today, we’re honored to share Anna’s story with you! "At the age of 22, I was diagnosed with skin cancer—a melanoma that, after a year of tests and waiting, had already spread to my lymph nodes. The surgery to remove them saved my life, but it led me to develop lymphedema, a chronic condition I had never heard of and for which there is no definitive cure. I loved fashion, sports, and nights out with friends. Then, suddenly, I found myself in a body I no longer recognized. The first eight years were tough: few specialists, uncertain treatment paths, and huge expenses without clear answers. I was ashamed of my compressed leg and withdrew more and more into myself—until I realized I couldn't be alone in this. That’s when I created stile_compresso, an Instagram page to share my experience with a fresh perspective, using humor and lightness. What started as a personal story grew into a large international community, now with 27,000 members, including patients, doctors, and companies. I turned compression garments into a symbol of style and resilience, collaborating with brands and advocating for inclusion in fashion. Today, I write, attend international events, and walk the runway to prove that even an imperfect body is valid and can inspire. On February 26, I had the honor of walking at Milan Fashion Week in the first inclusive fashion show officially recognized by the Italian Chamber of Fashion. By showing myself without shame, I have helped others do the same, creating a positive wave of awareness and acceptance" . . . #Lymphedema #NationalLymphedemaNetwork #PatientHighlights #NLN #LymphedemaAwarenessMonth #WorldLymphedemaDay #WLD
